Really interesting story. I love so much about this rich and interesting world, so much darker than many of Jill Myles’ other books. I admit that I read the earlier version of this book a long time ago and found myself surprised and satisfied with many of the revisions, which simplified and streamlined a lot of the action and the relationships; it makes a lot more sense now. The dynamic between the two protagonists is filled with legitimate barriers based on cultural expectations, conflicting loyalties, and pride. Real stakes keep them apart, and real consequences are at stake if they can’t find ways to compromise across their differences and come together. Highly enjoyable read!
