5-star quick review: The Golem and the Jinni (Helene Wecker)

the golemLoved so much about this book. Although a slow start, the beauty of how the two stories came together and built on the themes of each other was amazing. Many books explore the historic experience of being an immigrant as a perpetual outsider. But to look at that experience from the eyes of two extraordinary creatures who are outsiders not only because of their cultures, but also the very essences of their beings is fascinating and haunting. Even months later, I still think about this book. The tragedy, beauty, and soaring quality of their love and struggles is page-turningly gorgeous from start to finish.
