Magical, beautiful retelling of Robin Hood. It’s been years since I read it, but scenes still haunt me: Robin Hood’s PTSD from the Crusades, Marian’s realistic attempts at fixing her broken neighborhood and trying to survive in a corrupt system where she can’t win no matter what she does. It’s a lovely retelling that shines a light on the darker aspects of the Robin Hood tale without losing the sense of hope, sacrifice, and nobility that makes the best Robin Hood stories so lovable.
